Insomniac maintains silence on Marvel’s Wolverine launch window
Studio’s new co-head addresses development status while keeping anticipated release details under wraps.
Insomniac Games continues to keep details about Marvel’s Wolverine close to the chest, with the studio remaining noncommittal about the game’s release timeframe. The highly anticipated title, which was first revealed in 2021, has generated significant interest despite limited official information being shared since its announcement.
The project has assembled notable talent, including Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt D. Williams, who is crafting what’s been described as a darker and more mature narrative compared to Insomniac’s Spider-Man series. The game is confirmed to take place within the same universe as the studio’s existing Marvel titles, creating an interconnected superhero world.
Recent months have brought several changes to the development team. Former director Brian Horton departed to work on Xbox‘s Perfect Dark project in October, while associate narrative director Mary Kenney moved to CD Projekt Red as a senior writer. These staff changes occurred alongside an unauthorized data breach in late 2023 that exposed internal development materials, including alpha footage and casting information.
In a recent conversation with Variety, Insomniac’s new co-head Chad Derzern addressed questions about a potential 2025 release. “As much as we have pent up excitement [about Marvel’s Wolverine], we got to hold on to it. So that’s about as much as we could say about our upcoming projects today,” Derzern stated.
Marvel’s Wolverine development progress sparks release speculation
While official details remain scarce, industry observers have been tracking the game’s development trajectory. Last summer, Insomniac acknowledged fan interest by promising future updates when ready. Gaming insider Jeff Grubb recently suggested that the project has made substantial progress, hinting at possible upcoming revelations.
The timing of Marvel’s Wolverine’s release has drawn particular interest as it could potentially launch alongside other major Marvel gaming titles, including the announced Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra from Skydance.
