Call of Duty Accelerates Update Timeline with Early January Release

Treyarch and Raven Software have released the final January 2025 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone ahead of its planned February deployment. The update, which launched on January 31, introduces significant weapon balance adjustments, cross-play improvements, and various technical fixes across both games.

Unexpected Early Release

The development team had initially announced plans to monitor Season 2’s launch and implement weapon balance changes in early February. However, just one day after this announcement, they expedited the release, making the updates available across all platforms on January 31.

Weapon Balance Adjustments

The update brings substantial changes to two popular weapons. The XM4 Assault Rifle received several nerfs, including decreased maximum and medium damage ranges. Its attachments also saw modifications, with the Buffer Stock receiving increased penalties to ADS speed and recoil control. Conversely, the PPSh-41 SMG received buffs, featuring increased damage range, improved leg damage multipliers, and enhanced horizontal recoil control for foregrip attachments.

Cross-Play Functionality Improvements

Significant changes have been implemented to cross-play functionality in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 Ranked Play. Players in same-console parties will now matchmake according to the party leader’s cross-play preferences. The system automatically adjusts settings for mixed platform parties to ensure smooth matchmaking, though these changes may affect queue times.

Additional improvements include reduced muzzle flash visibility on all SMGs, spawn protection in hardcore multiplayer modes, and various bug fixes across multiplayer and Zombies modes. The developers are currently investigating an issue causing cross-play settings to reset after game relaunches.
