Uruguayan Retailer Admits to Fabricating GTA 6 Release Date
Store acknowledges creating false September 2025 launch date based on GTA 5’s original release timing.
A retail store in Uruguay has acknowledged creating a fabricated release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, following widespread circulation of their listing that claimed the game would launch on September 17, 2025. The retailer, X Uruguay, has issued a statement clarifying that they received no official information from any gaming industry sources.
The store revealed they had simply copied Grand Theft Auto 5’s original release date from 2013, adjusting the year to 2025 to align with Rockstar’s announced launch window. This admission came after a customer support conversation suggesting the information originated from PlayStation began circulating online, prompting speculation within the gaming community.
The September 17 date raised immediate skepticism among industry observers, as it fell on a Wednesday—an unusual day for major game releases, which typically launch on Tuesdays or Fridays. The retailer has since apologized to fans for listing the unconfirmed date and opening pre-orders based on speculation.
Currently, the only official information from Rockstar Games regarding GTA 6’s release timing remains a broad Fall 2025 window. The game’s development has generated significant attention since its first trailer confirmation of a female protagonist named Lucia and a setting in the franchise’s version of Florida, including Vice City.
