Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Hints at Classic SMG’s Mysterious Comeback

A fan-favorite submachine gun might be making its way back to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as recent leaks suggest the PPSH-41 could be the “iconic” weapon Treyarch Studios teased for Season 2. The weapon, which hasn’t been seen since Call of Duty: Vanguard, was identified through data mining efforts that uncovered a suspicious file name “t10_sm_p41_perth.”

The speculation arose after Treyarch’s blog post about the next Zombies map mentioned that one of the most iconic SMGs in Zombies history would be included in the update. While initial community theories pointed toward the MP40, data miner HeyImAlaix’s discovery has shifted expectations toward the PPSH-41.

Season 2 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone is scheduled to launch on January 28, following one of the longest seasons in the franchise’s history. The update promises new maps, modes, and rewards, alongside significant quality-of-life improvements. These include a new challenge tracker, separate HUD preset settings for Multiplayer and Zombies, and reduced teammate collision for better movement.

However, Activision has announced a scaled-back content plan for Warzone, prioritizing bug fixes and performance improvements over new features. This decision comes as Call of Duty faces declining Steam player numbers, with Black Ops 6 losing over 50% of its player base since its October launch. The exodus has been attributed to ongoing issues with Warzone and ranked play modes, including prevalent cheating problems.
