Development on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach continues to move forward as director Hideo Kojima announces a significant production milestone. The acclaimed game creator recently shared news about actress Shioli Kutsuna completing her work on the highly anticipated sequel.

Kutsuna, who portrays the mysterious character Rainy in the game, has finished an extensive production process that included 3D scanning, performance capture in Los Angeles, and voice recording sessions in both English and Japanese. The completion of her work came despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with Kojima expressing his gratitude to the actress through a thoughtful gesture of presenting her with a bouquet of flowers.

The sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding follows protagonist Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile as they continue their mission to rebuild connections in a world devastated by supernatural phenomena. The game introduces new characters, including Tomorrow, played by Elle Fanning, who some fans speculate might be connected to the original game’s infant character, Lou.

Beyond Kutsuna’s role as Rainy, Death Stranding 2 features an impressive cast that includes renowned filmmakers George Miller as the Drawbridge captain and Fatih Akin as the voice of Sam’s puppet companion. While the game remains scheduled for a 2025 release window, the completion of key performance capture work suggests steady progress in its development journey.
