Fallout 76 Unleashes Major Performance Overhaul and Bug-Fixing Update
Bethesda rolls out comprehensive fixes and improvements for its post-apocalyptic multiplayer game.
Bethesda Game Studios has deployed a substantial update for Fallout 76, bringing numerous stability improvements and bug fixes to the post-apocalyptic multiplayer experience. The game, which takes place in 2102 within the irradiated landscapes of West Virginia’s Appalachia, continues to receive support more than six years after its initial 2018 release.
The update rollout began with a temporary server shutdown on January 21, 2025. What was initially communicated as routine maintenance turned into a surprise update addressing several critical issues that had been plaguing the game, including persistent raid crashes and severe technical glitches.
According to Bethesda’s official patch notes shared on Twitter, the update tackles various long-standing issues. Notable fixes include resolving the Scorchbeasts’ endless attack loop, silencing mysterious Mothman whispers in the Gleaming Depths, and adjusting an unintended Super Mutant caps bonus that had been giving players excess currency. The patch also corrected the Pip-Boy Currencies tab display and enabled proper Plastiform Blue Star camp construction functionality.

The Ash Heap region received particular attention in this update, building upon the foundation laid by December 2024’s Gleaming Depths update. As Bethesda maintains support for Fallout 76, anticipation builds for the franchise’s future. Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 will follow The Elder Scrolls 6 as the studio’s next major project, with fans already discussing desired features, including the possibility of a Brotherhood of Steel protagonist.
