Mortal Kombat 1’s T-1000 Brings an Iconic Movie Scene to Life
Ed Boon reveals a nostalgic throwback fatality for the upcoming liquid metal assassin.
The world of Mortal Kombat 1 continues to expand with cinematic flair as Ed Boon showcases the upcoming T-1000’s brutal fatality. This reveal comes shortly after the successful launch of Conan the Barbarian as the latest addition to the game’s roster of guest fighters.
Robert Patrick, who originally portrayed the liquid metal assassin in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is returning to the role by providing both his likeness and voice to the character. The T-1000, famous for its advanced shapeshifting abilities, will join the ranks of movie icons already present in the game, including Ghostface from Scream and the recently added Conan the Barbarian.
In a social media update, franchise co-creator Ed Boon shared more than just the T-1000 preview. He announced that Mortal Kombat 1 has surpassed five million copies sold, demonstrating the franchise’s continued success. The highlight of his post, however, was the gameplay clip featuring the T-1000’s fatality – a faithful recreation of the iconic truck chase scene from Terminator 2, with Johnny Cage on the receiving end of the mechanical menace’s wrath.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Future Content Sparks Discussion
While the release date for the T-1000 remains under wraps, the character’s addition follows NetherRealm’s tradition of incorporating authentic source material references into their guest characters’ movesets and fatalities. This attention to detail was previously seen with Ghostface, whose finishing move directly references a scene from the original Scream film.
Recent industry speculation suggests that NetherRealm might have canceled plans for a third DLC season. However, Ed Boon’s comment about “keeping on trucking with future DLC” has led some fans to question these claims. Currently, players can experience the latest addition to the roster with Conan the Barbarian, portrayed by an actor who shares an interesting connection with the T-1000’s original cinematic adversary.
