Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Takes Major Step Against Multiplayer Cheating
Treyarch reveals significant anti-cheat progress in ranked play, with more security measures on the horizon.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer Treyarch has taken decisive action against cheaters since the introduction of Ranked Play mode. The studio’s latest community update revealed that over 136,000 accounts have been banned for cheating, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing battle against unfair play.
The gaming community has been vocal about cheating issues in Black Ops 6, particularly following the launch of Ranked Play. In response to these concerns, Treyarch has implemented account-based bans rather than IP bans, noting that the latter could unfairly impact legitimate players in shared networks such as college campuses and internet cafes.
Looking ahead to Season 2, which launches on January 28, the developer is introducing several new security measures. Console players will gain the ability to disable cross-play in Ranked Play mode, while both client and server-side detection systems will receive substantial upgrades. The update will also implement a new tampering detection system to enhance game security.
Treyarch’s commitment to fair play extends beyond the immediate future. For Season 3 and subsequent updates, the studio is developing new authentication technology to better distinguish legitimate players from cheaters. While specific details remain under wraps to prevent exploitation by cheat developers, these improvements signal an ongoing dedication to maintaining competitive integrity.
Black Ops 6’s seasonal content model continues to evolve, with additional updates planned throughout 2025. The arrival of Season 2 brings fresh content to the popular first-person shooter, aiming to reinvigorate player engagement in the coming weeks.
