Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Combat System Gets Major Overhaul in Latest Update
Latest patch introduces limited-time Legendary Warrior mode and significant combat rebalancing.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has received a substantial update that brings significant changes to its combat mechanics and introduces new content. The update, which is now available across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, addresses several player concerns while adding fresh features to the fighting game.
A standout addition is the new limited-time Legendary Warrior Face-Off mode, which challenges players to test their skills against an exceptionally powerful opponent. The mode arrives as part of Spike Chunsoft’s efforts to maintain player engagement following the game’s successful October 2024 launch, which saw over three million copies sold on day one.
The update implements extensive combat rebalancing, with notable adjustments to key mechanics. High-Speed Evasion, Perception, and Super Counter abilities have received nerfs to make them more challenging to execute, while Rush Attack and Grand Slash mechanics have been enhanced. The controversial Wild Sense feature has been weakened, and various automatic avoidance skills have been adjusted to prevent exploitation during combo sequences.
Quality-of-life improvements include new options in Custom Battle mode, streamlined Quick Match matchmaking, and the introduction of penalties for players who frequently disconnect from online matches. Training mode now features a “Guarding After Attacks” option for CPU opponents, while Episode Battle allows difficulty adjustments regardless of Dragon Orb usage.
For character-specific changes, Goku’s Kaioken and other signature moves have had their Skill Count requirements reduced. The patch also addresses various technical aspects, with modifications to chase mechanics, impact recovery systems, and overall combat flow. These adjustments come as the game prepares for its first DLC release, scheduled for January 23.
