Gears of War Collection Sparks Xbox Community Speculation Following Phil Spencer’s Actions

The Xbox community is buzzing with renewed speculation about a potential Gears of War collection after Xbox head Phil Spencer was spotted revisiting classic titles from the franchise. The timing is particularly noteworthy, as it comes months after the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day at last year’s Xbox Summer Game Fest showcase.

Industry insiders have been circulating rumors since 2022 about The Coalition developing a Marcus Fenix collection. While the original Gears of War received a remaster in 2015 with the Ultimate Edition, the subsequent entries in the series remain available only through Xbox 360 backward compatibility.

Spencer’s Xbox profile has recently displayed multiple achievement unlocks from both Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3, marking his first return to these titles in over a decade. This activity has gained particular attention from the community, especially considering the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day’s 2025 release window.

A comprehensive collection release would align strategically with E-Day’s launch, which explores the origins of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago’s brotherhood before the events of the original trilogy. Such a collection could serve as an ideal entry point for newcomers while potentially focusing on the original trilogy rather than including later entries like Judgment, Gears 4, or Gears 5.

While the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct showcase will feature titles like Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, any potential Gears collection announcement might be reserved for Summer Game Fest in June.
