Genshin Impact’s 5-star character rotation faces scheduling challenges
HoYoverse’s growing character roster creates new patterns for future banner releases.

The expanding roster of Genshin Impact characters has created notable scheduling patterns for character banners, particularly affecting the availability of 5-star heroes. With the game now featuring over 90 playable characters, maintaining a balanced banner schedule has become increasingly complex for HoYoverse. This complexity was recently highlighted by Cryo characters Shenhe and Ganyu, who experienced a notable absence of over 550 days from banner reruns.
The introduction of the Chronicled Banner system has partially addressed these scheduling challenges, though players have noted its limitations. The system lacks the Capturing Radiance feature, a luck-based mechanic implemented in Version 5.0 for Event Banners. Combined with recent modifications to the Weapon Banner system, the Chronicled Banner currently stands as the least efficient method for obtaining specific 5-star characters or weapons.
Data compiled by RapidFresh shows Kokomi leading the waiting list following Version 5.4. Her most recent appearance occurred in Version 3.8, where she shared the spotlight with Wanderer. Kokomi’s value as a premium healer has seen significant growth, particularly after the introduction of Fontaine’s fluctuation mechanics. The analysis also highlights notable absences for characters like Venti, anticipated for Version 5.5, and Xianyun, one of two Fontaine characters yet to receive a rerun.
Inazuma characters show distinct pattern in banner rotations
A noticeable trend has emerged regarding Inazuma’s character representation in banners. Several key figures from the region, including Kokomi, Ayato, Ayaka, Yoimiya, Yae Miko, and Itto, could potentially qualify for an Inazuma-focused Chronicled Banner. Mizuki could join this roster by Version 5.6. While HoYoverse hasn’t confirmed plans for a third Chronicled Banner, implementing a more regular schedule could address player concerns about the current format.
Looking ahead to Version 5.4, Wriothesley is confirmed for a return to Event Banners. Version 5.5’s banner lineup remains largely unknown, though Varesa is expected to debut as the newest 5-star character. With Venti likely securing one banner slot to complete the Archon rerun series, two positions remain available for other 5-star characters. Version 5.4 is scheduled to release on February 12, 2025.
