Marvel Snap Shakes Up Operations After Unexpected Government Ban Incident

Popular digital card game Marvel Snap has returned to service following a brief suspension caused by recent U.S. legislation. The game’s developer, Second Dinner, found itself caught in the crossfire of the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which initially targeted TikTok and other ByteDance-affiliated applications.

The suspension, which began on January 19, took both players and developers by surprise. While TikTok quickly resumed operations, Marvel Snap’s return to service on January 21 came with several complications. Players are currently experiencing errors with in-game purchases, and new users are unable to download the game from the App Store.

In response to these challenges, Second Dinner has announced plans to seek a new publisher and bring more services in-house. This decision comes amid growing tensions with their current publisher’s parent company, ByteDance, following recent layoffs and the sale of gaming properties. The developer has promised to share more details about these changes in future updates.

Despite these setbacks, Marvel Snap maintains its connection to the broader Marvel gaming universe, having recently participated in a Marvel Rivals collaboration. The game is expected to continue its tradition of MCU tie-in events, with upcoming movies like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts on the horizon.
