Mortal Kombat 1’s Mysterious Pink Easter Egg Sparks Fan Speculation

A curious discovery in Mortal Kombat 1’s upcoming DLC content has set the fighting game community abuzz with speculation. During preview gameplay footage of the soon-to-be-released Conan the Barbarian DLC character, players spotted an intriguing pink message that could hint at a long-rumored addition to the franchise.

The mysterious Easter egg appears during Conan’s victory animation, where the word “Floyd” briefly flashes in pink letters accompanied by a distinctive guitar riff. Fighting game content creator Super encountered this peculiar occurrence during a mirror match while previewing the character, though they reported being unable to consistently reproduce the effect.

This discovery gains significance when connected to past statements from Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, who previously expressed interest in introducing a pink-colored ninja named Floyd to the series. Adding credibility to the speculation, user thetiny reportedly found references to Floyd within Mortal Kombat 1’s source code last year.

The naming choice appears to reference the legendary band Pink Floyd, following a pattern similar to the existing character Rain, whose purple aesthetic and name were inspired by Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The timing of this Easter egg’s appearance coincides with the upcoming release of Conan the Barbarian, who joins Mortal Kombat 1’s roster on January 21 as part of Kombat Pack 2.

Conan’s addition to the game brings with it a faithful recreation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s likeness, with voice actor Chris Cox reprising his role after previously portraying the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11. The barbarian warrior will be featured alongside other guest characters including Ghostface from the Scream franchise and the upcoming T-1000 from Terminator 2.
