After Miramax label announced a reboot of Scary Movie back in April, Marlon Wayans recently made the same announcement on his social media platforms. The posts that Wayans uploaded on Tuesday, October 29, read:
“WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”
The Scary Movie series is a popular slasher parody film series, where the first movie was released in 2000. The five movies in the franchise were massive hits and had a combined gross of about $900 million at the worldwide box office.

After much waiting, fans finally got news of the upcoming Scary Movie film, which is set to be released in 2025. The announcement came about 11 years after the release of Scary Movie 5, in 2013.
The announcement was first made in April 2024 at CinemaCon, before the recent confirmation by Wayans. Additionally, Deadline reported on October 29 that Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenan Ivory Wayans will be part of the upcoming sequel.
Meanwhile, Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman also made a statement about the upcoming movie, as reported by Deadline in the same interview. Glickman stated,
“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
The Wayans Brothers further told Deadline how excited they were to work in the film series once again.
For the unversed, the popular slasher parody movie series was originally developed by the Wayans brothers—Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen. Keenen wrote and directed the first two movies in the franchise. Meanwhile, Shawn & Marlon Wayans, who acted in them, were also involved in the writing process.
Fans are excited with the announcement of the upcoming film and have urged the movie makers to bring back the same level of unfiltered humorous content. No release date has been disclosed yet.
