“It was incredibly sad” — Sophie Turner reflects on her fallout with Joe Jonas, says they “had a beautiful relationship”

Actress Sophie Turner recently opened up about her separation from singer Joe Jonas, describing it as a profoundly sad moment.

On October 30, 2024, in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Sophie Turner briefly reflected on her ongoing divorce proceedings. Due to the legal sensitivities of the matter, Turner refrained from sharing extensive details but expressed that the experience has been “incredibly sad.” She noted that she and Joe Jonas shared a “beautiful relationship” —

“I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad. We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard,” Turner said.

The couple exchanged vows on May 1, 2019, in Los Angeles. However, after four years of marriage, Joe Jonas filed for divorce on September 5, 2023. In a statement to People, Jonas explained that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” marking the end of their union.

In an exclusive interview with Harper’s Bazaar on Wednesday, Sophie Turner reflected on her marriage with Joe Jonas. Turner suggested that the process has been upsetting and sad. However, she further noted that she is “happy” to be back in London, England, as she suffered from homesickness throughout her marriage—

“I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,” Turner said.

Expounding her feelings of homesickness, Sophie Turner shared that she had been away from London for six years, during which significant life events occurred, such as her friends getting engaged and her pregnancy. Turner noted that one friend even remarked she never had the chance to feel Turner’s baby bump —

“I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family. I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant… We didn’t have those key experiences with each other,” Turner continued.

She also recalled her time living with Joe Jonas, first in Los Angeles and later in Miami, where her initial priority was always finding a British shop to stock up on as many chocolates as possible —

“Every city we ended up in, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate,” Turner added.

In her interview, Sophie Turner only shared a few details about her divorce or life in the United States with Joe Jonas. The couple publicly addressed their separation on September 6, 2023, issuing a joint statement on Instagram describing it as a “united decision” while choosing to keep further specifics private —

“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” the statement read.

The couple has two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2. In a lawsuit filed on September 21, 2023, Jonas requested that their daughters be relocated to London and have their permanent home there. According to People, Jonas was in the process of purchasing a property in the English countryside, UK, after selling the Miami property.

However, USA Today Entertainment reported that earlier this year, the two reached a custody agreement in court, deciding that their children would live part-time in both the United States and the United Kingdom, stating they “will spend time equally in loving homes in both the US and the UK.”

On September 6, 2024, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas finalized their divorce settlement, with a judge officially granting them single status, as reported by People.

Joe Jonas has not commented on the final settlement or Turner’s recent remarks.
