Overthrown Expands with Major Livestock and Combat Update

Fantasy city-builder Overthrown has launched its first major content expansion, The Livestock Update, introducing farming mechanics and enhanced combat systems. The update arrives for PC players via Steam on January 30, 2025, with Xbox Series X/S users gaining access through Game Preview on January 31.

Farming and Livestock Systems

Central to the update is the introduction of Woolies, sheep-like creatures that serve as the game’s first farmable livestock. These creatures come in three variants: normal, fluffy, and a mutated form. Players can manage these animals through the new Woolie Barn structure, where the creatures rest and produce wool resources through a unique shearing mechanic that involves direct player interaction.

The expansion introduces several supporting structures for the farming system, including the Washhouse and Well. These facilities employ new worker types such as Launderers and Soapers, creating an interconnected resource management system that enhances the game’s economic depth.

Combat and Structural Additions

The update significantly expands Overthrown’s combat mechanics through the introduction of fire-based warfare. Players can now utilize fire bombs, mortars, and power kegs, with the ability to set buildings ablaze during conflicts. The new Mortar Tower structure, operated by Cannoneers, provides defensive capabilities against enemy structures.

Additional structural improvements include nine new buildings, ranging from military installations to civilian facilities. The update also implements an expanded research tree and introduces specialized worker types such as Weavers and Gong Farmers, each contributing unique skills to the kingdom’s development.

Developed by Brimstone and published by Maximum Entertainment, Overthrown maintains its “Mostly Positive” reception on Steam as it continues early access development. The development team has outlined future updates focusing on difficulty options, map icons, and dynamic outlaw settlements, demonstrating ongoing commitment to expanding the game’s features before its full release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
