Overwatch 2 Restructures Competitive Play with Clash Mode Removal
Blizzard announces significant competitive gameplay changes coming to Overwatch 2 in February.
Blizzard Entertainment has announced a significant modification to Overwatch 2’s competitive structure, with the removal of the Clash game mode from Competitive Play starting February 18, 2025. The change will be implemented with the launch of Season 15, marking a notable shift in the game’s competitive landscape.
Game Director Aaron Keller identified several key issues that prompted this decision. According to Blizzard, Clash matches frequently result in rapid steamroll victories, leading to significantly shorter match durations compared to standard Overwatch encounters. Additionally, players have reported confusion regarding active point identification during matches.
“We need to take the time to look at these maps,” Keller stated, addressing the community’s concerns. The development team plans to evaluate and potentially refine the mode’s mechanics during its competitive hiatus. Players will still have access to Clash through Quick Play and other game modes, ensuring the content remains available while improvements are considered.
This adjustment comes at a crucial time for Overwatch 2, as Blizzard prepares for a comprehensive spotlight event on February 12. The event promises to showcase upcoming heroes, maps, and substantial PvP modifications, demonstrating the company’s commitment to evolving the game’s competitive environment.
