Path of Exile Update 3.26 Faces Indefinite Delay as Developer Prioritizes Sequel

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) co-founder Jonathan Rogers has announced an indefinite delay of Path of Exile’s Update 3.26, acknowledging the studio’s struggle to balance development resources between the original game and its sequel. The announcement comes amid increased focus on addressing Path of Exile 2’s early access issues.

The delay stems from GGG’s decision to prioritize critical improvements for Path of Exile 2’s endgame content. Rogers explained that the studio’s resources, initially allocated for both games, have been redirected to address player feedback and resolve issues in the sequel’s early access phase. “We still have a lot to learn about how to run two games simultaneously,” Rogers admitted in his address to the community.

The update, originally targeted for October 2024 following Path of Exile: Settlers of Kalguur’s July release, was informally rescheduled for February 2025. However, Rogers clarified that this February timeline was never officially confirmed, though it had been discussed with select community members, leading to widespread expectations within the player base.

Development Timeline and Future Plans

GGG has established a clear sequence for their development priorities, stating that work on Update 3.26 will not commence until after the release of Path of Exile 2’s patch 0.2.0. While this approach has disappointed some Path of Exile 1 players, Rogers emphasized the studio’s ongoing commitment to the original game’s development.

The studio has begun preliminary planning for Update 3.26, with Rogers confirming that pre-production work will progress gradually. However, the primary focus remains on stabilizing Path of Exile 2, ensuring its core systems meet player expectations before redirecting resources back to the original game’s content pipeline.
