Pokemon TCG expands with new Gen 5-inspired collection from The Pokemon Company

The Pokemon Company is preparing to expand its Trading Card Game lineup with a Generation 5-inspired collection scheduled for summer 2025. According to a report from PokeBeach, this special set draws inspiration from the Japanese Black Bolt and White Flare series, featuring the legendary Pokemon Reshiram and Zekrom.

Following the January release of Prismatic Evolutions, which has faced significant supply challenges, The Pokemon Company continues to broaden its TCG offerings. The upcoming collection is expected to launch on July 18, with products exclusively available through bundles rather than individual booster packs.

The initial wave of releases will feature two distinct Elite Trainer Boxes, each themed around one of the Generation 5 legendary Pokemon. This release strategy mirrors the approach taken with Prismatic Evolutions, maintaining the special set format that has become increasingly common for premium collections.

The release calendar extends beyond the initial Elite Trainer Boxes, with two Tech Sticker Collections and Illustration Rare Boxes planned for August 1. Later that month, on August 22, collectors can look forward to two separate Booster Bundles, each featuring its own distinct card selection.

Looking further ahead, The Pokemon Company has plans for a separate TCG release on May 30. This expansion will incorporate cards from several Japanese sets, including Heat Wave Arena and The Glory of Team Rocket. Notable additions include special Trainer’s Pokemon variants, previously known as Owner’s Pokemon, featuring characters like Marnie and Steven with their signature Pokemon partners.
