Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Return of Mythical Island Event Sparks Player Debate
The controversial event returns with challenging win-streak requirements and exclusive rewards.
Pokemon TCG Pocket has reintroduced the Mythical Island SP Emblem event, stirring mixed reactions within its player base. The event, which focuses on competitive battles, has become a point of contention among the mobile game’s community.
Since its launch in October 2024, Pokemon TCG Pocket has established itself as the premier mobile platform for the trading card game, effectively taking the torch from Pokemon TCG Live. The game has achieved remarkable success, amassing over 60 million downloads and generating more than $400 million through in-game purchases. While these microtransactions don’t directly impact battle outcomes, they do offer faster access to card collections.
According to Serebii’s recent announcement, the renewed Mythical Island SP Emblem event challenges players to earn rewards through versus battles. The rewards include various tiers of the Mythical Island SP Emblem, Shinedust, and Pack Hourglasses. Players aiming for the coveted Gold-tier emblem must achieve five consecutive victories against other players, which also rewards 200 Shinedust. The challenging nature of this requirement has prompted numerous complaints across social media platforms.
One silver lining of the event is the ability to accumulate Pack Hourglasses for future expansions, as confirmed by Pokemon TCG Pocket officials. This feature might appeal to players looking to prepare for upcoming content releases. The event stands in contrast to previous offerings, such as the Blue-themed event, which provided rewards through more accessible daily challenges and Wonder Picks, including themed items like the Blue and Blastoise Binder Cover and Card Back.
The event’s return may represent DeNA’s strategy to boost player engagement in competitive battles. With trading features still marked as “coming soon,” the game continues to evolve, suggesting future events might take different approaches to player participation.
