Sony is actively addressing performance concerns that have affected select games on the PlayStation 5 Pro since its November 2024 launch. While many PS5 titles have been successfully optimized for the enhanced console, certain games have experienced notable performance issues that Sony is now working to resolve.
The PS5 Pro, which retails at $700, boasts impressive hardware improvements including a GPU that’s 45% faster than the standard PS5. The digital-only console was designed to deliver enhanced resolution and frame rates, yet titles like Silent Hill 2 remake and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have encountered technical difficulties, particularly related to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology.
A developer working on Truck Driver: The American Dream has revealed that Sony has been releasing multiple iterations of PSSR technology. The latest version will be implemented in upcoming Truck Driver updates, suggesting Sony’s commitment to resolving these technical hurdles. While it remains to be seen if these improvements will address all existing issues across different titles, the company appears to be actively supporting third-party developers with updated tools.
PS5 Pro faces additional challenges amid strong sales performance
Beyond the PSSR-related concerns, PS5 Pro owners are dealing with a separate challenge: a significant shortage of disc drives. The scarcity has led to scalpers driving up prices, with available units quickly disappearing from retail shelves due to limited supply.
Despite these initial setbacks, the PS5 Pro has demonstrated strong market performance. Circana gaming analyst Mat Piscatella notes that the console’s sales figures match those of its predecessor, the PS4 Pro, marking a considerable achievement given its premium $700 price point.
