Resident Evil Zero Remake Development Takes Mysterious New Direction
Insider reports suggest changes in the development team for the unannounced survival horror remake.
According to recent insider information, the unannounced remake of Resident Evil Zero is reportedly still under active development, though with significant behind-the-scenes changes. While Capcom has yet to make any official announcement, trusted industry insider Dusk Golem shared on Resetera that the project has undergone major shifts in its development team.
The original Resident Evil Zero, which first debuted as a Nintendo GameCube exclusive, introduced innovative gameplay mechanics to the survival horror franchise. Its distinctive feature allowed players to freely switch between protagonists Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers during gameplay, creating unique opportunities for puzzle-solving and combat scenarios. The game also implemented a groundbreaking item management system, removing the traditional item boxes in favor of allowing players to place items directly on the ground.
Resident Evil Franchise’s Future Takes Shape with Multiple Projects
While Capcom maintains its silence regarding future releases, industry sources suggest the company has multiple Resident Evil projects in various stages of development. Beyond the rumored Resident Evil Zero remake, reports indicate that a Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is also in the works. Additionally, Resident Evil 9 is allegedly under active development, potentially serving as the conclusion to the trilogy that began with Resident Evil 7.
Sources familiar with the company’s plans suggest that Resident Evil 9 may be the next major release in the franchise, with the remakes following afterward. The ninth mainline entry is expected to continue the narrative threads left hanging in Resident Evil Village, though Capcom has yet to confirm any details about these projects.
