Sony has reportedly canceled the development of a PC version for Gran Turismo 7, according to industry sources. The racing simulator, which launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in March 2022, was never officially announced for PC, though development was apparently underway before the decision to halt the project.

The information comes from IconEra user Bryank75, who has previously provided accurate information about PlayStation projects. The source, citing insider knowledge, indicates the project has been shelved, though specific reasons for the cancellation remain unclear.

This development marks an interesting shift in Sony’s PC porting strategy, particularly following PlayStation Chairman Hiroki Totoki’s February 2024 statement about becoming more “aggressive” with PC releases. Since then, Sony has successfully launched several major titles on PC, including Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The same source also addressed speculation about other potential PC ports, noting that the Demon’s Souls remake is not currently in development for the platform. This information arrives during a period of significant industry changes, with Microsoft’s recent shift toward multi-platform publishing potentially influencing Sony’s strategic decisions regarding platform exclusivity.

The timing of this reported cancellation coincides with broader changes at Sony, including the retirement of former CEO Jim Ryan in March 2024 and the company’s reassessment of its live-service gaming initiatives. Sony has reportedly canceled more than ten Games-as-a-Service projects since 2022, suggesting a potential realignment of its digital distribution and platform strategies.
