Capcom has announced a comprehensive update for Street Fighter 6, scheduled for February 5, that will significantly expand the game’s competitive ranking system. The update introduces three new prestigious ranks above the current Master level: High Master, Grand Master, and Ultimate Master, marking the most substantial change to the game’s competitive structure since its June 2023 launch.
The ranking system overhaul includes two new mechanical implementations targeting high-level play. Players will see their Master Rate (MR) at the start of each new Phase adjusted based on their previous Phase performance, aimed at improving matchmaking accuracy. Additionally, a new points system will reward players for participating in matches, offering exclusive rewards such as alternative character colors.
Additional Features and Character Expansion
A notable quality-of-life improvement in the update is the Match Restore option, allowing players to resume custom matches interrupted by disconnections—a feature particularly valuable for online tournament play. The update also enhances the replay system, enabling players to review both ranked and casual matches, while the World Tour mode receives improvements to streamline Master training and tracking.
Mai Shiranui joins the roster as the third DLC character of Year 2, following M. Bison’s June release and Terry Bogard’s September debut. The character brings a mix of classic moves and new techniques to the fighting system. Capcom has confirmed Elena from Street Fighter 3 will complete the Year 2 lineup, with a planned Spring release.
