The Simpsons: Tapped Out mobile game concludes 13-year journey
EA’s beloved Springfield builder closes its doors as players bid farewell to their virtual towns.

A significant chapter in mobile gaming history has come to a close as EA‘s The Simpsons: Tapped Out officially ends its run. The popular city-building game, which launched in 2012, allowed players to create and manage their own version of Springfield on Android and iOS devices, generating substantial revenue and maintaining a dedicated following throughout its 13-year lifespan.
The game’s final moments were marked by emotional farewells from thousands of daily active users who had spent years cultivating their virtual towns. Despite community efforts, including petitions to keep the game operational, EA proceeded with the planned shutdown. In a touching display of dedication, many players chose to send their digital citizens on final 24-hour tasks before the servers went offline.
While EA never fully disclosed the reasons behind the shutdown, industry speculation points to potential factors such as licensing agreements or shifting revenue dynamics. The company did provide advance notice to the community, giving players several months to prepare for the closure.
EA’s 2025 gaming calendar marks end of multiple titles
The closure of Tapped Out marks the beginning of several planned shutdowns in EA’s portfolio. The company has scheduled the discontinuation of seven additional mobile games for January 29, while UFC 3 will cease operations on February 17. March 13 will see the end of EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14, followed by the termination of Madden NFL 21’s online services on June 30.
Unlike some other titles in EA’s shutdown schedule that retain offline functionality, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, being an online-only experience, has completely ceased to exist, taking with it countless player-created Springfields that had been carefully crafted over the years.
