Treyarch unveils ancient horrors in new Black Ops 6 Zombies experience
The Tomb map brings paranormal threats and a quest to rescue Samantha Maxis from the Dark Aether Nexus.
Treyarch has unveiled new gameplay footage for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s upcoming Zombies map, “The Tomb.” This new chapter continues directly from the Citadelle des Morts storyline and launches with Season 2 on January 28.
The narrative follows Weaver, Maya, Carver, and Grey as they venture into a cursed dig site carrying a recently acquired amulet. Their mission leads them deep into ancient catacombs where the mysterious Sentinel Artifact is believed to reside. The location harbors centuries-old paranormal activity and houses the Dark Aether Nexus, where Samantha Maxis remains imprisoned.
Players begin their journey at the Dig Site before descending into The Tomb’s elaborate network of passages. The environment showcases well-preserved remnants of ancient civilizations, with areas including the Neolithic Catacombs, the Ossuary, and the Shrine of the Hierophants. The map features the return of classic elements like Perk-A-Cola machines, including the Death Perception perk from Black Ops 4.
Black Ops 6 introduces new threats and classic weapons in The Tomb
The map introduces strategic elements through wall-mounted traps that can help eliminate zombie hordes. Larger areas like the Subterranean Temple and Deep Excavation zones provide challenging spaces where zombies can amass in significant numbers. A new enemy type, the Shock Mimic, adds an extra layer of difficulty with its electrical attacks, deceptive item disguises, and distortion camouflage abilities.
To combat these threats, players can wield the returning Staff of Ice Wonder Weapon from Black Ops 2. The journey culminates at the Dark Aether Nexus, accessed through the mysterious “Doorway to Nowhere.” This final area features towering spires and fungal growth, setting the stage for the map’s main quest finale. For those new to the experience, Black Ops 6’s Directed Mode offers guidance through mission objectives.
