Ubisoft unveils Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft has lifted the curtain on the first major expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of the game’s March 20 launch. Titled Claws of Awaji, this DLC promises to deliver more than 10 hours of additional content, introducing players to the new region of Awaji.

The expansion introduces a fresh adversary faction known as the Sanzoku Ippa, who will actively hunt players throughout their journey. Combat receives an enhancement with the addition of the Bō weapon type, giving protagonist Naoe a new combat style to master. Players who pre-order any version of the base game will receive the Claws of Awaji expansion at no additional cost when it releases.

Development of the expansion has been entrusted to Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This arrangement allows the main development team at Ubisoft Quebec to concentrate on polishing the core game experience. While the exact release date for Claws of Awaji remains unspecified, Ubisoft has indicated it will arrive “later in 2025.”

The path to release for Assassin’s Creed Shadows has seen its share of challenges, including multiple delays. These postponements came in the wake of Ubisoft’s recent challenges with titles like Star Wars Outlaws. However, early hands-on previews of the game have generated positive feedback, suggesting a promising direction for the project.

Pre-order incentives extend beyond the expansion, with players also gaining access to an additional quest called Thrown to the Dogs at launch. The expansion details highlight Ubisoft’s commitment to delivering substantial post-launch content for their upcoming title.
