Xbox Media Apps Face Performance Issues After Extended Use

A new technical issue is affecting Xbox consoles, specifically impacting media streaming performance. Users have reported that various TV and streaming apps become laggy or sluggish after extended viewing periods, prompting Xbox to launch an official investigation into the matter.

The performance degradation appears to have emerged following an October 8 system update. This update was initially intended to enhance the console’s ability to detect and download game updates more efficiently across both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S platforms. The rollout began with Xbox Insiders program members, particularly those in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, who typically test new features before wider release.

In response to user reports, Xbox has acknowledged the situation in a statement to Alpha Xbox Insiders: “We are investigating a small number of reports with some media apps becoming laggy or sluggish after extended playback.” The company has suggested a temporary solution for affected users – either switching between a game and the media app or completely restarting the problematic application.

Xbox Media Performance Issues Distinct from Standard Console Lag

The current streaming app slowdown is separate from typical performance issues that might stem from poor internet connections, network overload, or outdated firmware. This particular problem specifically manifests after prolonged use of media applications, resulting in a gradual decline in performance quality.

This media app investigation follows another recent challenge faced by Xbox users, where several indie games unexpectedly vanished from user libraries without any prior notice. While some affected titles were eventually restored after developer intervention, at least five games were initially impacted by this separate issue.
