Zenless Zone Zero’s Astra Yao Brings Revolutionary Combat Mechanics to New Eridu
The upcoming S-Rank character introduces unique support abilities and combat states to the action RPG.
HoYoverse has revealed the complete combat mechanics for Astra Yao, the newest S-Rank character coming to Zenless Zone Zero. This New Eridu starlet, previously known to players through Lumina Square advertisements and a brief story appearance in Version 1.4, is set to become the game’s first S-Rank Ether Support character.
Astra Yao’s combat kit revolves around a unique state called “Idyllic Cadenza,” which transforms her into a stationary powerhouse on the battlefield. While in this state, she can remain active even after switching to other characters, providing continuous support while becoming invulnerable to damage.
Her Additional Ability, “Moonlit Frenzy,” creates powerful synergies with Attack and Anomaly characters in the squad. When using Precise Assist or Basic Attack: Finale abilities, Astra Yao follows up with Tremolo and Tone Clusters, enhancing the team’s combat effectiveness.
The character’s Special Attack, “Windchimes & Oaths,” allows her to dash in a chosen direction before entering the Idyllic Cadenza state. During this phase, she provides damage buffs to all squad members and can execute various combat moves, including Basic Attack: Interlude and Perfect Dodge combinations.
Her Ultimate ability, “Fantasian Sonata,” channels energy into a powerful blast that deals massive Ether damage while healing the entire squad. After unleashing this ability, Astra Yao automatically enters Idyllic Cadenza state and gains access to special Chain Attacks for her next two Quick Assists.
Beyond her combat capabilities, Astra Yao’s arrival marks another milestone for Zenless Zone Zero. Version 1.5 will introduce the game’s first character skins, including a new outfit for Astra Yao herself. Additionally, the update will provide cosmetic options for veteran characters, with Nicole receiving a free skin and Ellen getting a new look as well.
The versatility of Astra Yao’s kit makes her compatible with various team compositions, particularly when paired with Attack characters like Evelyn or popular Anomaly units such as Miyabi. Players can experience her unique gameplay style when she debuts in Version 1.5 on January 22.
