Chinese action RPG continues strong market performance six months after launch with significant milestone.
Chinese action RPG Black Myth: Wukong has reached a new commercial milestone, selling 25 million copies worldwide since its August 2024 release. The Journey to the West-inspired title has maintained strong market momentum following its record-breaking launch period.
According to the latest report from Niko News, the game’s sales trajectory has shown consistent growth. The title achieved 10 million sales within its first three days, expanded to 18 million in two weeks, and reached 20 million units by the end of its first month. The game’s launch day also set a Steam record for single-player games, with over 2.2 million concurrent users.
The game’s success spans both Western and Chinese markets, with particularly strong performance in its home territory. A recently opened Black Myth: Wukong flagship store in China generated approximately $410,000 in merchandise sales during its first three days of operation, with many items selling out immediately.
The title’s commercial success has been accompanied by critical acclaim, securing multiple industry awards including Ultimate Game of the Year at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards. At The Game Awards 2024, the game claimed victories in the Best Action Game and Players’ Voice categories. The Steam Awards 2024 recognized the title with Game of the Year, Best Game You Suck At, and Outstanding Story accolades.
Developer support continues with recent technical improvements, including PS5 Pro optimization and a new Challenge gameplay mode added in December 2024. Producer Feng Ji has indicated plans for future expansion content, while expressing interest in developing additional titles based on Chinese mythology within the Black Myth series.
