Compulsion Games sets April launch window for South of Midnight adventure

Canadian developer Compulsion Games has revealed their upcoming Southern Gothic adventure, South of Midnight, will launch on April 8, 2025. The game will be accessible through PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions at release, with Premium Edition owners gaining access five days earlier.

The announcement came during the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 presentation on January 23, accompanied by a three-minute trailer showcasing the game’s atmospheric storytelling and distinctive Southern Gothic environment. This marks Compulsion Games’ third major release, following their previous works Contrast (2013) and We Happy Few (2018).

South of Midnight introduces accessible pricing model and premium perks

Breaking from industry standards, South of Midnight adopts a more accessible price point of $39.99 for its base edition. Players can now place their pre-orders through Steam and the Xbox Store. The game’s modest pricing aligns with its concentrated gameplay experience, which Compulsion Games estimates will take approximately 12 hours to complete.

The Premium Edition, priced at $49.99, includes additional content such as a digital artbook, soundtrack, and The Boo-Hag comic book by Rob Guillory. This version also features a music video, documentary, and grants five days of early access starting April 3. Game Pass members can upgrade to the Premium Edition for $10 to access these bonus features and early play period.

The Xbox Developer Direct 2025 event also unveiled release dates for other anticipated titles, including Doom: The Dark Ages (May 15) and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (April 24). The presentation concluded with the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 and the immediate release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black across PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass.
