Bungie has unveiled a new weapon modification system for Destiny 2’s upcoming Episode Heresy, introducing temporary enhancements called Fragile Mods. The system, launching February 4, will allow players to significantly boost their weapons’ capabilities through the episode’s duration.
According to Bungie’s latest blog post, Fragile Mods will provide unique perks and enhanced power levels to weapons, offering new opportunities for character builds. The initial rollout includes two mods during Act 1, with additional modifications planned for Acts 2 and 3 of Episode Heresy.
Weapon Enhancement System Details
The Heretical Arsenal weapons feature multiple improvements beyond standard modifications. Each weapon can drop with two Origin traits and distinctive visual effects. The Fragile Mods system adds another layer of customization, though these enhancements will only remain active throughout Episode Heresy’s duration.
New Weapons and Integration
Episode Heresy introduces several new weapons designed to work with the Fragile Mods system. Notable additions include Adamantite, a Strand-powered support auto rifle, and Psychopomp, an arc area denial grenade launcher. The update also features reprised versions of weapons from the Season of Arrivals and Vault of Glass, including the popular hand cannon Fatebringer.
The temporary nature of Fragile Mods aligns with Destiny 2’s evolving structure, particularly as the game approaches its Codename Frontiers update scheduled for summer 2025. Players will have access to these enhanced capabilities throughout Episode Heresy, providing a unique window for experimental builds and enhanced gameplay experiences.
