Human Fall Flat Sales Hit 55 Million, Securing Top-Three Indie Status

Independent game Human Fall Flat has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 55 million copies sold since its 2016 release. This achievement positions the physics-based puzzle platformer as the third best-selling indie game of all time, overtaking the popular farming simulation Stardew Valley.

The success story becomes even more notable considering its origins. Developed by No Brakes Games, led by solo developer Tomas Sakalauskas, Human Fall Flat has established itself across multiple gaming platforms, including PC, consoles, and mobile devices. The game’s continued growth over nearly a decade demonstrates remarkable staying power in an increasingly competitive independent gaming market.

According to PCGamesN, the game now ranks behind only Minecraft and Terraria in indie game sales. While Minecraft tops the list, it’s worth noting that its developer, Mojang Studios, transitioned from independent status following Microsoft’s acquisition in 2014.

The achievement reflects a broader trend of success in the independent gaming sector. Recent examples include LocalThunk’s Balatro securing a Game of the Year nomination at The Game Awards 2024, and Billy Basso’s Animal Well receiving critical acclaim. These successes demonstrate the growing impact of small development teams and solo creators in the gaming industry.

Looking ahead, No Brakes Games has confirmed development of a Human Fall Flat sequel as of June 2023, while continuing to support the original game with new content. The official Human Fall Flat account has acknowledged the sales milestone and promised additional content for current players.
