Nintendo Switch 2’s Success May Not Hinge on Launch Price, Industry Expert Suggests

Industry experts are weighing in on Nintendo‘s highly anticipated successor to the Switch, suggesting that its launch price might not be the decisive factor in its market performance. Mat Piscatella, Executive Director of Games at research firm Circana, recently shared insights about the upcoming console’s potential market reception.

Following Nintendo’s official unveiling of the Switch 2 on January 16, the announcement trailer quickly outperformed the PS5’s reveal in terms of viewership. While many details about the console have emerged, the price point remains one of the most significant unknowns.

Speaking to Games Radar, Piscatella explained that early Nintendo hardware adopters typically show less sensitivity to pricing. “As long as the launch price isn’t some egregious amount,” he noted, the console should perform well in the market. This analysis aligns with Nintendo’s optimistic outlook, as supply chain reports indicate the company is preparing to move over 20 million units in 2025.

While Piscatella’s sales projections are more conservative than Nintendo’s, they remain impressive. He estimates the Switch 2 will sell between 14 and 17 million units worldwide in 2025. These numbers, though strong, might not match the remarkable success of its predecessor, which recently overtook the PlayStation 2 as the best-selling console in U.S. history.

This perspective is echoed by DFC Intelligence, another research firm that has predicted the Switch 2’s dominance in the next console generation, regardless of its price point. The gaming community eagerly awaits more details about the console, including its official price tag, which is expected to be revealed during Nintendo’s April 2 Direct presentation.
