Overwatch Classic Expands Roster with Four Post-Launch Heroes

Blizzard Entertainment is expanding its Overwatch Classic mode with four additional heroes from the original game’s post-launch roster. The enhanced version, scheduled to launch on February 4, will introduce Ana, Sombra, Orisa, and Doomfist to the nostalgic 6v6 gameplay format within Overwatch 2.

The updated Classic mode maintains its commitment to authenticity by featuring heroes in their original states, complete with launch-era ability kits. Notable among these returns is Doomfist, who will revert to his original DPS role, complete with his signature Rising Uppercut ability that was removed when the character transitioned to a tank role in Overwatch 2.

Players can expect significant gameplay changes with the expanded roster. Orisa returns with her original shield-based defensive capabilities, while the addition of Ana and Sombra brings back classic support and infiltration strategies. The mode will also recreate the distinctive Mercy Moth meta from the game’s earlier period.

This marks the second iteration of Overwatch Classic, following its initial run from November to early December. The first version featured the original 21 launch heroes, while this expanded edition incorporates some of the game’s most impactful early additions. Based on previous patterns, the mode is expected to remain active for approximately two to three weeks.

The timing of this release coincides with Overwatch 2’s ongoing 14th season, which recently introduced the new tank hero, Hazard. While Season 15 is anticipated to begin in mid-to-late February, Blizzard may be planning a third wave of Classic mode featuring additional post-launch heroes such as Moira, Brigitte, Wrecking Ball, and Ashe.
