PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Themes Face Uncertain Future as Fan Support Grows

An unexpected ally has joined the chorus of voices calling for the preservation of PlayStation‘s 30th Anniversary themes. Domino’s Pizza took to Facebook to publicly request that Sony maintain these nostalgic features on the PlayStation 5, highlighting the growing community support for these commemorative designs.

The special themes, which include classic boot screens and visual elements from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 eras, were released as part of PlayStation’s 30th-anniversary celebration. The collection has struck a particularly strong chord with fans, especially the PS1 start-up sequence that faithfully recreates the iconic original boot screen.

Domino’s Pizza’s Facebook post, which simply stated “Dear PlayStation, please keep this forever” alongside an image of the PS1 start-up screen, resonated strongly with the gaming community. The post garnered over 44,000 reactions, 1,300 comments, and 2,800 shares, demonstrating the widespread appeal of these retro-inspired themes.

The movement to preserve these anniversary themes has gained significant traction beyond social media. An online petition advocating for their permanent availability has already collected more than 12,000 signatures. Despite this outpouring of support, Sony has not yet committed to keeping the themes permanently available on PS5 systems.

The enthusiasm surrounding these anniversary themes has also reignited discussions about dynamic themes on the PS5. While the feature was popular on the PS4, Sony has not announced any plans to expand dynamic theme support beyond the current anniversary collection.
