Trials of Osiris undergoes transformation ahead of Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy

Bungie has unveiled extensive modifications coming to Destiny 2’s competitive PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, as part of the upcoming Episode Heresy launch in February. The changes aim to revitalize the game mode, which has seen declining player engagement despite its historic popularity in the original Destiny.

The competitive mode had previously undergone several iterations, including an attempt to recreate the experience through Trials of the Nine, followed by various updates to weapons and vendor systems. These past adjustments, however, failed to significantly boost player participation, leading Bungie to implement its most comprehensive overhaul yet.

According to a detailed blog post, the new version emphasizes combat-focused gameplay over objective-based mechanics. The update introduces improvements to Fireteam-Based Matchmaking and adjusts zone capture timing, making them appear later in matches and require more time to secure.

Destiny 2 revamps Lighthouse access with new reward structure

The iconic Lighthouse, a simulated location on Mercury previously accessible only to players achieving seven consecutive wins, will now operate under a more inclusive system. Players can reach the Lighthouse after accumulating seven total wins, regardless of losses. While maintaining competitive elements, the system introduces enhanced rewards for winning streaks of five or more, including Ciphers, Ghost Shells, Flawless Emblems, and armor glows. The changes ensure all players can access new gear, weapons, and an exclusive armor set.

As Episode Heresy’s launch approaches, Bungie has shared additional updates coming to the game, including significant changes to subclasses and abilities. Among these is the introduction of a new arc trait called Bolt Charge, designed to enhance momentum-based gameplay mechanics.
