Gran Turismo 7’s Latest Update Overhauls Vehicle Physics, Adds Content

Polyphony Digital has released Update 1.55 for Gran Turismo 7, introducing substantial changes to the racing simulator’s physics engine alongside new content. The update, weighing 2.47GB on PS5 and 2.78GB on PS4, represents one of the most significant technical improvements to the game since its 2022 launch.

New Vehicles and Racing Content

The update introduces four new vehicles to Gran Turismo 7’s extensive roster:

  • Gran Turismo F3500-A
  • Honda Civic Si Extra (EF) ’87
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 N ’24
  • Toyota C-HR S ’18

Players can now access three additional World Circuit events:

  • Sunday Cup: Kyoto Driving Park – Miyabi
  • Japanese FF Challenge 450: Sardegna – Road Track – C
  • World Touring Car 600: Autodromo de Interlagos

Technical Enhancements

The update’s cornerstone is a comprehensive overhaul of the game’s physics engine. Significant improvements have been made to the suspension and tire models, with vehicles now responding more realistically to track conditions. The suspension system has been refined to better handle short bumps and surface variations, while tire behavior has been adjusted for more authentic performance in wet and off-track conditions.

The Gran Turismo Sophy AI system has expanded its reach to include Mount Panorama and Interlagos circuits, bringing the total number of AI-supported tracks to 17 out of 39. Controller responsiveness has also been enhanced, with improved steering algorithms for both standard controllers and racing wheels.

Key physics modifications include:

  • Refined suspension response over uneven surfaces
  • Adjusted tire grip characteristics in varying conditions
  • Enhanced traction control and ABS systems
  • Improved force feedback for steering wheel peripherals

Additional features include a new “Chromatic Drive” Scapes curation for photography enthusiasts and various performance adjustments to specific vehicles. The update also resets several ranking boards and adjusts target times across various game modes, providing fresh challenges for competitive players.
